I would say most definitely asia. If you guys are up to partying and just living the life, asia is the way to go.

Europe is slower paced and more romantic (which may be what the mrs is thinking)

@Sampepys Great reply! thanks for all the specific info, that was very helpful!

thanks everyone for your help. i really appreciate it. After your help and some research we are leaning toward Asia! Sounds like our money goes further, better nightlife, friendlier people, warmer weather and we get to ride elephants instead of taxi's all day

I went to China last September and October; had a great time! It was for work, but had plenty of opportunities to get out and see the sights. I really enjoyed the modern architecture, and literally saw some buildings go up in the time I was there. "China Speed" is something else!

The food was incredible - never found myself longing for American food the whole time I was there.

The people I interacted with were very friendly; they reciprocated my respect twofold.

I came home and told my wife that I could envision living there for a few years...but would ultimately want to come back to the U.S.

So Thailand? They will even allow you to ride the elephant yourself (under somewhat lax supervision, at least 10 years ago...).
