Newbie looking to get started....questions/suggestions

If you're looking to present a more formal image at work I'd recommend you skip the t-shirts and polos and go for well fitting button up shirts and dress pants. For the pants, be on a lookout for the Incotex that appear in the B&S section from time to time.

the first post in response to the O.PS original question is pretty much standard and good advice... but the part about not wanting to spend alot of money good luck bro... im about a year into my total transformation and im prolly already in the thousands.... find some good staples and brands you trust and i cannot recommend ebay enough its tailor made for a guy tryin to up his style on the cheap...
