I know this topic has been discussed in previous posts, so forgive me. I am headed up to NYC next week, and, bargain-seeking college student that I am, I wanted to know if there were any thrift\\consignment shops that still might be worth checking out. I'm not looking for Brioni for $30 or anything like that, just some shops that generally have decent stuff that might be worth checking out while I'm there. Any recs from NYC style forum members? THanks!

You are more likely to have luck with consignment stores.

Among them:

INA
Tokio/Tokyo 7
Tokio/Tokyo Joe [check spelling on each of these]
Gentlemen's Resale

All in Manhattan.

For more casual stuff, Beacon's Closet or Buffalo Exchange in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

but there are three good stretches that i know of: 17th st around 6/7, 23rd st bet 2/3, and 3rd ave from 79 to 84. it's all in the lap of the thrift gods, but you might check out housing works, city opera and goodwill on 23rd bet 3rd and 2nd, and the one round the corner on 3rd just south of 23rd.
happy hunting. if you go uptown, i strongly recommend gentleman's resale on 81 bet 2nd/1st. and if you're paying those prices, you should also think about bergdorf's 75% off sale which started today.

if you're going to the city alone, why not try to get up early, grab some coffee at a dean and deluca or a starbucks, and arrive to Century 21 before it opens? I hear that's one of the best in town. from what i understand, they have the brands discussed in the forum-- brioni, borrelli, oxxford, and i think kiton as well-- all at great prices, if you can get thru the crowds to the good stuff. If i would have had more time on my last trip alone, i would have done the same.

do a search for centruy 21 at www.nymag.com for more information (i can't bring the site up right now on the wireless connection)
