New York Dining recommendations?

Things change so quickly in NYC that I wanted to check in and see what recommendations you have for dinning in NYC. Here are our needs;
-Dinning with my wife, we are both working all day at trade shows for a full week
-Will be asking a customer or industry friends to join in some nights
-We don't need the big, well know places
-prefer smaller, quieter
-The Village or Upper West Side
-We eat almost anything but Italian or French is always good.

Thanks for any suggestions. SF has been great for NYC recommendations in the past.

Price?

My new favorite place is Hung-ry in NoHo. I found it via gdl's rec and have been back 3x in the past few weeks.

Salumeria Rosi on UWS has amazing porchetta, I would go for wine and small bites.

No it isn't. SF has been far more helpful for finding enjoyable meals in any major city I have visited in the US or Europe.

I love Barbuto in the West Village. Hearth never disappointed me. Hung-Ry as poorsod mentioned is also our new favorite local these days. David Burke's Kitchen is a really interesting dining experience - food is excellent, creative while staying quite rustic and very intense flavors + impeccable service. Can follow up with a drink at the James Hotel's bar. WallsÃ

in the WV for a slightly different cuisine than the typical Italian/French/American.

Barbuto is great. I ate there not too long ago and then we zipped down to the SoHo Grand to meet some friends for cocktails. Excellent.

Village - more casual
- Buvette - casual french
- Snack Taverna
- go to Morandi or Cafe Cluny for breakfast, great scene and good food
- Mary's Fish Camp or Mermaid Oyster Bar for seafood
- Market Table
- i Sodi

Village - more expensive
- Perry Street
- Recette
- Annisa
- Kin Shop (if you are up for very intersting thai)
- Mas (french/intimate but I have never been)
- Perilla

I like 'Employees only' for cocktails and dinner. Chimichurri Gril is very good and small . Carlile or Penninsula hotels are both great for drinks.

I ate at the new David Burke in the James recently and loved it. It's pricey, but damn good.

Around the corner is Centrico (Aaron Sanchez).

DBGB on bowery is pretty solid - great burgers and sausages.

My two stand-bys that I always mention in these threads still stand the test of time... Tavern on Jane (neighborhood corner bar that's owned by a friend - cheap and good food, but nothing novel. It's right across from Corner Bistro) and Blue Ribbon Brasserie.

Also - I've been meaning to try Harold from Top Chef's place but haven't gotten around to it. You can be my guinea pig!
