New Years Eve Attire

Gents,

I need some advice for appropriate attire for New Years Eve. I will be going to a bar in Lincoln Park, and not sure what to wear to be "one notch" above everybody else, but also don't wan't to be overdressed...The past new years eve I was in New York, where a suit and tie was pretty much mandatory...and this is my first New Years Eve in Chicago...What do you suggest I wear on Friday? I have a pretty full ensemble of clothing, so feel free to offer any suggestions. The bar is pretty casual, lots of young professionals frequent it.

Im going with dark blue sevens, pink sport coat, white french cuff shirt, tie TBD. Black shoes, debating oxfords or monkstraps. But my party is jacket and tie required, so I am on a more strict plan.

This may just be me, but I would never wear a tie with jeans. It's like a walking contradiction.

Which bar? I spent two years living in Lincoln Park.

I'd wear a velvet blazer (if I had one) with jeans and some sort of button down, no tie.

I've dressed a tuxedo down before by wearing a black cashmere or silk turtleneck instead of a tuxedo shirt and black tie, but that seems a little excessive for such a soirÃ

I'm not in Chitown, but FWIW, I'm going with black 3 button no vent blazer, v. plain black belt and oxfords (this is a sticking point, I'd prefer not plain black oxfords), either sevens or levi's premiums, sea island white fc shirt, dressing it up with Paul Smith links and pocket square. If I feel like wearing a tie, which I don't right now, I'll wear a solid navy tie, somewhat narrow. Yeah, that sounds good.

amirrorcrackd--My dilemma is that I have to wear a tie, its the dresscode (jacket/tie). I want to wear this pink sport coat to jazz it up, but I think it would look ridiculous with anything other than jeans. Any thoughts?
