I am clueless when it comes to style. My last suit was purchased 15 years ago and is obviously dated. What should I be looking for in a suit for this event? I would like to be able to also wear it again for business. I am in IT for an advertising company. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I know you're looking for a multipurpose suit you can wear on many occassions, but for New Year's Eve (and especially at the Kennedy Center), I think you will need a tuxedo. There is another thread floating around asking about whether it is better for a 20-something man to rent or buy a tux, and the general consensus is buying is always better -- you'll get a great garment that fits you well after you have it altered (something you cannot do with a rental). That thread: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=90888

Peak lapels. Although your suits from 15 years ago might have those too.
