Hi . . .

The title is pretty selfexplanatory.

My girlfriend and I are contemplating on which of these two cities should we visit for NY . . . We would be staying for 5-6 days. We are in late twenties intersted in culture, cuisine, fun and ofcourse shopping.

We would appreciate any input or reccomendations.

Thanks in advance.

Puerta del Sol in Madrid is awesome on New Years! I've never done New Years in NY but the Puerta del Sol is about the closest thing to it on the Iberian peninsula at least. The 12 grapes! Mecano has a song that always reminds me of the time I spent there in the mid-90's. Here's an interesting photo montage set to it - .

Madrid is just a fun place to be. That whole area around the Puerta del Sol (Kilometro 0) has tons of things to do. The restaurants in and around the Plaza Mayor are awesome - my first night there at dinner our study group was serenaded by an old couple in sort of an open air opera performance. There used to be a very authentic flamenco bar close by that we only visited once.

I was in Lisbon during New Years two years ago. It was a lot of fun but may not be what you are looking for. For us, it was a bunch of drunk 20 year olds - I'm sure you can find culture and there is definitely great cuisine but the whole city becomes a mess so I'd plan for something ahead of time if I were you.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
