New vs. Sale Clothing

I am wondering what percentage of new to sale clothing everyone buys?

I have been scouring ebay, STP (and other discount websites), and visiting outlets in an effort to find some good buys and save some money.

At this point, it seems like I am either forced to pay full retail and get what I want when i want it (and get lucky if it's on sale) or settle for something that I don't really want / wasn't looking for but is suitable, or get stuff off of ebay (which I've found isn't exactly what the seller said it was...).

Patience may get me exactly what I want on sale but I'll be old and grey and probably have a totally different style by then...

I am thinking maybe 65% new and 35% sale/ebay/outlets/deep discount? Do you do better?

I buy the majority of my stuff on sale. I tend to dress classic/traditional for the most part so the stuff I like is allways around and there is no need to get anything new or trendy.

I don't need much, so my discount percentage is much higher. I'll pay more for a staple, but even then I almost never pay retail. I'll fork over full price to have something made, but that's about it.

It helps that I don't follow trends. My style seems relatively fixed, and there's nothing I just have to have right now.

I'm probably around 70% new/30% on sale. I don't follow trends but I'm very particular about what I like to wear so if I see it at full retail and it's something within my means I will go ahead and buy it. I rarely buy anything on sale that I wouldnt have paid full retail for.

I'd rather buy MTM, than ever to pay retail for ready-to-wear. In part because my size is small, I usually have plenty of selection, during final sales.

I'm very much the same way. I also very much enjoy the retail experience and typically have a hard time finding things I'm interested in during sales events. Probably because you guys always beat me to the good stuff!

Although I do set aside a good amount of my clothing budget for things like the Paul Stuart annual sale. I've taken to having my shirts made and am starting to get more particular about my shoes

, so have been using MTO option there as well, which limits my ability to go for sales. All in all, I'm probably 80/20 at this point. Arg

I buy very little for retail price.

New, only counting RTW and excluding, I think I've paid full retail for perhaps four to six pieces of clothing in my adult life. For shoes the percentage is considerably higher, maybe 60-70%. If I'm going to pay full retail, chances are it's being made for me.

Sales are twice a year and are worth waiting for.

I'm probably at about 80% sale 20% retail, primarily because I don't have a pressing need for much so I can afford to pick and choose good deals.

80% secondhand, 20% sale. I have all I need right now and can afford to be patient for a bit of luck.

It depends on the price and brand. Now that I think about it I think I'm around 30/70% for sales. Which I am quite proud to realize.
