New suit style question - Herringbone

I recently went for a fitting for a suit so that I could stop looking so homeless while working for large corporations. I am a photographer, and while no one normally pays too much attention to what we wear, I would like to look nice.

For the fabric I decided on a dark grey mini herringbone pattern. Here is a sample:

I am fairly conservative with how I dress and am nervous I may have picked a too aggressive suit material for a starter/utility suit.

This is my first post but I have been a long time reader of this forum when I have style issues.

That is not aggressive at all. I have a very similar fabric and barely anybody notices it is herringbone, from normal distances it just looks charcoal. I think you're in good shape, no worries.

That's fine - it will look good IF you have picked a decent tailor.

Great choice. I prefer herringbone or sharkskin for solid color suits.

Very nice choice and as good for a starter suit as solid grey

Narrow herringbone is a classic weave. I prefer it in navy to grey, but it's still fine.

I can imagine very few professions where a mini-herringbone suit would be too trendy, and photographer definitely isn't one.

I like herringbones very much... In fact I just commissioned a navy herringbone suit in SB 1-button notched lapel configuration. The nice thing with herringbones is that - depending on the fabric and styling - it may (just) be possible to pull of using the coat as an odd jacket as well as part of a suit, adding a bit a of flexibility to your wardrobe. Enjoy!

Herringbone will add some surface interest to the cloth, which personally, I think 'solid' colours benefit from.

Pick and picks do the same, in fact I prefer them to herringbones.
