New slim fit suit, does it fit?

Hi, Im new to the forum, and not yet an expert on anything to do with clothes

I just bought a new slim fit suit, and am beginning to wonder if it were a bit to short.
The guy in the store said that it was perfect, and it was meant to be like it is, but after reading a bit online I read that the jacket should cover all of my behind (Although its modern if it is a bit shorter?)

I guess all of you in here know more about this than me, so I appriciate every answer

The jacket is too short I think, the buttons could be lower. I'm not very experienced though...

I also bought another one. I only have the jacket right now, but I have a couple of pictures of that with the other paints (look away from the difference...)

Hmm... how long are the jackets really supposed to be?
And is the latest one really too short to use, or does it work?

As the guy said in the store.. that slim fits often are a bit shorter, and that its a modern thing, is there something to it, or is it just bs..?

I've always been taught that the Jacket's Bottom should touch your thumb when your arm is resting to the side.

Also the shoulder is to big if when you stand next to a straight wall with your hands down and the shoulder extends out too much that your arm is not touching the wall. ( Do not force your body to the wall just line up slowly and if you can feel your shoulder hit the wall then most likely the shoulders are too big for you.) I also generally button the middle button on the suit when seeing if it fits.

Slim Fits are not always shorter, and I would think it depends on the brand of the suit.

second one looks better. more conservative guys around here will tell you it needs to go longer but if you're going for a modern slim look then shorter jackets are fine. The first one's pushing it a bit too much though.

your shirt looks too big around the mid-section (hangs over your waist).

Give us some context...are you wearing these to the club, or the office? Will you be around hipsters or old crumudgeonly dudes?

The first is defnitely too short for any function outside of college or a mod retail store. Not suitable for office attire. The 2nd isn't as bad but you have to wear short rise pants or the proportions will be off.

It's kind of true, but not entirely. Slim Fit suits are more fashion forward right now. I suppose, shorter jackets are also "in" right now, so they usually go together. However, jacket length should not be determined by the current fashion, but rather by your torso to leg proportions and body type. As a starting point, make sure your jacket cuts your body in half; if you have shorter legs, then the jacket needs to be shorter as well, but if your legs are longer than your torso, then do get a longer jacket. Slim fit, on the other hand, will always be stylish if done right. In fact, most people here agree on how a jacket should fit and that includes high armholes, waist suppression, clean shoulder line, etc - most of this is present in a slim fitting jacket.

To determine if yours is too short or too long, we would need a full body shot with shoes and everything. However, while not 100% sure, this one seems like it is too short for you. Also, get us a picture with the top button closed, only then will we be able to give you some advice.

If you read GQ or similar publications they will say the same thing about shorter jackets being in style right now. But most members of the forum here will advise against that...check out the WAYWRN thread pinned at the top here and you will see the typical jacket length that is worn by most SF members. I actually don't think the suit in your pics looks too terrible, if you were going for a more modern look. But, you have to ask yourself, do you want something that looks trendy now, or do you want a more timeless look. If you are looking for the former, then by all means go for it.

I myself am still struggling with this as well...I'm pretty tall so a lot of jackets end up looking too short on me. After learning more and more...I'm still relatively new to tailored clothing...I'm realizing that most of my jackets are probably too short and will end up looking dated in no time at all.

If what Saturday says is "correct" with the tumb touching the bottom, then the second jacket is almost perfect length, maybe a bit short.. (Im stretching my right arm a bit in the picture)

I also agree that the first one is too short... but i was hoping the second one would do

Also, this is not very expensive suits (Im glad, as they are not a good fit), and Im actually just looking for a "half-formal" suit to be wearing in family parties and stuff...
I dont need it to be perfect, but its not fun if it looks ridiculous on me..

Just IMHO, but on the streets of midtown Manhattan (a mostly-business district) I am seeing a good number of guys going this short on their jackets. Seems to be being viewed as a way of making a definite "today" statement.

It baffles me a bit, because it's not necessarily flattering on many builds, but the narrow-shoulder, bigger-hip look seems to be gaining more momentum. The shorter jacket just seems to accentuate the hips, as do the typical 2 side-vents in the back.

I'm having to adjust my eye to this, but I do note that when I see a man with suit pants that have a really full thigh, even if they taper markedly down to the ankle, it now looks outdated to me.

So I guess my theory, as I think this through, is that the shorter jacket helps emphasize the closer fit in the pants' thigh area, which seems to be one of the signature slim/skinny-fit aesthetics these days.
