This is my first time wearing these Magnanni shoes that I purchased from Nordstrom Rack. Is it normal for new leather to crease like this and is there anything I can do about it?

Yes, it is normal. Leather creases - especially the more you bend it. Keeping shoe trees in them when you aren't wearing them will help.

Might also be that shoes are too big or a too high instep.

Dress shoes are meant to be shoe-horned to avoid this.
Still, on some of my more expensive shoes I prefer to have creases on the vamp because to my mind they add a bit of character. On cheaper shoes, however, the creases may look unappealing and cheap.

Echo the shoe tree suggestion. You can also gently stretch the shoes in the opposite direction before putting the trees in. A deer bone can also be used to ease the creases. Commonly used with shell cordovan shoes, but equally useful with cow.
