Cleared cache. Have not seen it again but I’m not on public WiFi now plus that was the only time I’ve seen it.

Again happening on the front page. I visit SF less frequently these days but those spammers happen way too often. Is it not possible to limit this? I guess it's a sign of the forum's success but I can't see how it would harm the user experience if thread creation would be limited.

We already do that, but spammers are clever. I've seen some who have been registered for weeks before activating. Playing cops and robbers will always be harder for the cops. The robbers only have to succeed once for the cops to have cleanup work to do.

I didn't take a screenshot but the spammer used a very similar thread name in this case and also who creates 10 threads within a short time period?

I agree that it is very difficult to prevent spam but the spam attacks here are very different and more frequent than the ones I see in other forums.

We've been hit with different waves of spam throughout the years. For a while, it was all Russian porn. Then a lot of ones for Canadian drugs. Then it was all Chinese spammers. The current wave seems to be primarily Korean. I can't possibly begin to explain how a group of spammers latches onto a specific forum.

A lot of other forums have very restrictive rules for newbies. I've never been an advocate for that, and I think with good reasons. You join a community, the last thing you want, and the first thing that will turn you off, are a bunch of "insufficient privilege" options. It's often not even a conscious decision. It's just a natural path. You are blocked, so you move on, and don't come back. I think that for forums based around technical knowledge, the understanding of why some of these restrictions apply, and the acceptance if them, is a little higher. Our audience are style and fashion conscious men, usually with fairly high social status, who are not accustomed to being inconvenienced or told "wait". The knowledge of technical issues around websites also varies widely. So our policies have been crafted with those things in mind.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

Again, another spammer opening 10 threads within minutes of joining.
I can understand your reasoning but there is the other side to this as well - existing users are turned off by constant spam. If a new user legitimately wants to open 10 threads within minutes of joining then maybe include an approval process from the third thread onwards.

Xenforo does not discriminate between threads and posts, so a maximum of ten is a compromise solution. We are as frustrated as you are.

Was the switch to Grand Old Member intentional? I'm sure many would resent being associated with the GOP

I needed something above senior member, and that sounded funny to me in the moment. You do realize that if there exists an "essence of Styleforum" that people sometimes complain is being lost, that my making spur of the moment decisions is probably as SF as it comes.

Suggest an alternative if you'd like.

Not sure where to post this, but it looks like the Gustin Affiliate thread is closed. Maybe they are no longer affiliates, but I would still like a place to discuss Gustin. Should I start a new thread?

Is anyone else having issues with the multi-quote feature? Whenever I try to use it, hit +quote on multiple posts, and "reply" on the last one, I only get quotes for the last post I marked.
