new poster with a Company xmas party question

Hi guys,

I found this site via the "spectator Appreciation" thread and I thought I would turn to you for some advice. I have my company Christmas party this weekend. It is pretty nice event. Cocktails and dinner followed by a Christmas performance of the symphony. The people attending from my company will range everywhere from suits to jeans and since it is the symphony I would guess there would be several people outside of our company in black tie.

I am trying to decide on what I should wear. I have a variety of suits I can wear, but what I really want to wear is my white dinner jacket with the standard black pants, white shirt,etc but maybe add some color with a pocket square.

Is a white dinner jacket a no-go at the time of year? I wasn't sure if Christmas parties gave you a free pass.

If you are in the tropics or the southern hemisphere, I'd say it's fine. If it's snowing outside, I'd say no.

As there will be younger members here reading along, let us impart some wisdom to them while also addressing your question...
Wear what is appropriate for your position in the company and no more or even relax it a touch.
Flying below the radar is always more prudent than drawing attention to yourself.
Simple and elegant attire will suffice. A tie is fine, but nix the dinner jacket idea.
Be pleasant but don't drink too much, or talk too much or eat too much.
It saddens me how many times I've seen someone go overboard at a company event;
dressing like a fool, drinking too much and after one too many, convincing themselves that the boss(es) and everyone else present are wonderful, sensitive and interesting people.
Then comes the new year, and the wonderful, sensitive and interesting people reminisce about the clown that used to work there, and how amusing he was at the recent party.
In other words, never let down your guard, but quietly enjoy. The eyes are always on you.

Very good advice...

Do go something appropriate and try not to draw to much attention by wearing a white dinner jacket...

Go for something elegant and conserative..
