Sounds about right . . . you pay significantly more for the big names, but the premium may be worth it since they may be much easier to deal with overseas.

Thanks mafoofan,

Gigi sounds like quite an artisan and a character!

The perfect quote (from your blog):

"Before we go, Gigi assures me with a smile: "I know your taste." In the future, he will send me swatches of patterns he thinks I will like. We thank him for his time, and head off."

Did anyone else notice Gigi's collar standing away from his neck? I'm surprised to see a custom jacket do that.

Aw come on, Andre! I think I see the photo you're talking about. There's maybe like a half-centimeter, if that. He could just have been leaning forward funny. I'm short enough so that he'd have to to keep his head in the photo.

In most of the photos I see no gap at all. At any rate, you had to see his suit in person. It was very nice.

Not really; there's a huge range starting around 1300Eu and going to the moon. There's a guy a couple of blocks closer to town from Rubinacci who impressed both Matt and I with his workmanship and styling at 1300 for Dormeiul cloth. I have his card somewhere if anyone's interested, I think. If not I can get it again next week. Rubinacci is the only one who speaks English.

True. I think that with each tailor you get a bit of a different product and a different experience. IMO, there are two that I would seriously contemplate using. The first is Rubinacci, who I do use and who I believe provides the best overall service and product and the second is Solito, who Tom is using, who seems to provide a very, very similar product at a much better price with a bit less comprehensive service (or so I have heard). Either way is a win.

Gigi was always very elegantly dressed when I went to Marinella, but I am not sure who his tailor is. His coats are heavily draped and somewhat oversized with drooping shoulders etc, but he carries it well.

Marinella himself uses Solito. He said to me last summer: "At the moment, Solito is the best".

yes, www.sartoriasolito.com he is a very good tailor who makes things in a style that is usually a little fuller and slouchier (in a good way) than some others in Naples. He is supposed to be a very nice man but a little shakey with delivery times. One should take with several grains of salt "recommendations" in Naples as there are several different "groups" that recommend eachother. Most would say that there are a group of "the best" tailors in Naples and that they number four or five shops. Each one has it's own personality and typical cut and if you are going to be in Naples, you should check each of them out.
