Pita/gryo jawn is called Ali Baba, right by Pat O's on St. Peter. I've walked past it a hundred times since, but was so drunk when I went I didn't recognize it...

Not good drunk food? Verti Mart and Coop's jambalaya and fried chicken alone make me miss Nola. My favorite po boy is the breathtaking beef at Liuzza's by the track. Domilise's is a close second. Casamento's is my favorite oyster house. The Circle Bar is an amazing dive, in a city of wonderful dives (check out the mural on the wall).

What neighborhood do you live in, Bona?

Uptown, by campus but closer to Claiborne. I moving down right by St. Charles at the end of the summer. Never tried Casamento's, but I'm not big on oysters. Agree on all the rest, except sadly Circle Bar is pretty damn far from a dive now. I mean, the interior is still beat down, but the crowd is conservative business dress/Warehouse types (some of whom are cool, to be fair). Nice bar, though. EDIT: I barfed the last time I went to Coop's hammered, but I think that's cause I got something with shrimp in it...jambalaya would prob be alright.

I am a former NOLA resident that was just down visiting recently and came across a new restaurant called Boucherie that was fantastic and very reasonably priced. I believe it was on Jeannette up in Carrollton. For local music, I've always liked Le Bons Temps near Magazine/Napoleon. DBA in the Marigny is also a nice little spot to see local acts- great spirits selection too.

My group ate at Coop's last trip to NO. I had fried chicken and it was undercooked. We all shared and the consensus was that nothing was exceptional.
