I've got a Motorola DroidX that is a little over a year old. Its battery had lasted throughout a full day for the first twelve months. In the last month or two my usage pattern hasn't changed but it's barely making it six or seven hours without a recharge. I concluded that the battery must have been through too many discharge/recharge cycles and so I purchased a brand new Motorola extended life battery. My usage pattern still hasn't changed and the battery is barely holding a charge. It was fully charged two hours ago and since then I've sent a handful of text messages and searched the internet for about 2 minutes and it's now down to half charge. Does anybody have any clue as to what could be the problem and what might be a good solution?

    Thanks, H_S.

Any recent software updates or application installs? What does the battery usage (Settings -> About phone -> Battery -> Battery use) screen say has been using the battery?

    dah328,

Thanks for the reply. Everything was still about the same with display and internet browser dominating the battery usage. I've researched it further and discovered it's a problem with the extended life battery. It's a problem with the Droid X interpreting the amount of charge left. Even though the phone drops to 5% charge remaining it continues to function that way for hours. The reason it happens is because although this battery is the same model number as the extended life battery made for the Droid X, the part number of this battery is the one designed for the Droid Atrix (which uses the same model number battery but a different part number). So while the battery works with the Droid X, the phone can't interpret the charge correctly. I'd say this is a pretty big screw up on Motorola's part. I've contacted the group that sold me the battery and hopefully they'll just swap it out for the right one.
