New Omega but which strap?

Gents,

I picked up a new dress watch recently and I am having some strap issues. The watch is an Omega DeVille Prestige Tonneau in solid 18k gold which originally came on a very bulky dark brown croc strap. I thought a watch that looks this "refined" needed a more elegant band. Lizard was the first thing that came to mind since I have another gold watch on a brown lizard that I love.

At first I thought a black lizard strap would be a good compliment to the other watch I have on a brown lizard.

I was actually quite dissapointed. Besides the fact that the band is not the best lizard band I have seen (I am not even sure it is genuine lizard after looking at it closely), I think it "overpowers" the watch.

Then I tried a tan lizard shown here.

What do you think if this? Does the light tan color make the watch look more casual (which I am NOT aiming for since I have a gold casual watch already)

And for another comparison, I put the brown lizard from my other gold watch. Unfortunately it is a 18mm and the Omega takes a 19mm so please pardon the visible lugs. If I decide to go with this color I would find one that fits. Here it is on the brown...

Overall, neglecting the fact it's the wrong size, I seem to like this combo the best. It just seems to go really well with the gold. I would wear it with every suit I own. Whether I would wear it with a dinner jacket or not is up in the air (but since I never wear DJ's I am not really worried).

What are your general opinions on the straps - black, tan, or brown. Would you have any other suggestions that might work?

Personally, I'd go with an even darker brown lizard. Agree with your assessment of the tan strap and black is safe.

I'd say the basic black/brown decision depends on what color belt/shoes you wear regularly. Maybe I'm too anal, but I like all my leathers to coordinate.

I actually have my watch straps made here (www.banda.com) and have them fitted with removable pins so that I can easily switch between black and brown.

As for the tone of the brown I'd say that's up to you. Personally, I like the redder tones.

First of all, nice watch.

Lizard straps don't quite do it for me. Have you considered a small-scale alligator? It is less expensive than large-scale alligator, but can look nice with a dress watch. For example, check out the darl brown Geno at Sirtoli:

Thanks. I had never considered small scale alligator. I know the large scale croc it came on did not work at all.

I also seem to prefer non-stitched bands which is complicating my hunt.

Yes, I've ordered at the shop. The order process on the website reflects the attention to details ABP is known for. If you can afford it, buy two while you are at it.

I'd go back to the large scale alligator - fits that style of watch much better than lizzard IMHO. In fact the only watches I like lizzard on are dainty women's watches.

I'm new to the forum, but I have a few Omega's and figured I'd throw in my $.02. I'd definitely go with gator, I prefer large scale, but those smalls look nice. I do not like stitchless bands, the glued finish looks cheap to me. You'll probably find more choices with 20mm bands, you can always squeeze in a 1mm larger band than the lugs, it just compresses.

I actually quite like the tan...i think it can serve the same purpose when coordinating with mid to dark brown shoes...but not black. whatever you choose, ur first choice (the watch) - is awesome!
