i do too - i just hope they try and keep it close to the book - which i thought was a very well told story.

don't you think that the story is a little bit too didactic? I mean, I don't remember it very well since it's been several years, but there's no real love interest, the plot threads take a little bit too long to come together, and half of the fun of the book is finding out how they actually count; afterwards, it seems almost journalistic (which is not to say bad, but journalism doesn't really seem to make good hollywood source material).

I would say the movie should go for hyperbole. sure, it certainly won't be high-brow, but it'll probably be fairly enjoyable with a little bit more tension and less dramatic irony.

I liked the book as an airplane read, but this movie rubs me the wrong way.

In real life, most of the MIT students involved were Asian. It was part of the strategy , as they felt that young Asians gambling big money were less noticeable than young whites trying to do the same.

So, this was a solid opportunity for Hollywood to cast a team of talented Asian-American actors in an intelligent and non-Lucy Liu/Kung Fu/Harold & Kumar vehicle. And instead they made the crew mostly white. It's too bad.

Is this based on 'Bringing Down the House' or another book on the same subject?

Not only that, but the not-so-subtle J. Press signage in the "backroom" scene at :36-:37. Seems aggressive for J. Press, eh?

Yes, it's based on "Bringing down..."

And the two lead MIT students who made the big bucks were not Asian. I know them. At least one of them is still in the Cambridge area.

+1 - the main character holds blackjack seminars around the country and he is certainly Asian-American.

What are you trying to say? Even if your premise is true, others would argue that casting Asians would do little more than reinforce the stereotypes that they're good at math and like to gamble.

Besides, Harold & Kumar was awesome.

Huh?

Not fraudulent. Just truth.

Sorry guys.

There were multiple people involved, but I know what I'm talking about. I also know what they put together afterwards and how a bunch of people made a ton of money gambling, but not in blackjack. They came up with a different "never done before" method for a different game. They've also done a decent job of keeping it a secret.

I'll let you do your own research.
