I've been stalking this site for a few weeks. I just got out of college and decided that my job (Real Estate) required a sense of style beyond jeans and a 3 week unwashed shirt which worked great in school.

Anyways, I've been throwing money into a new wardrobe (business related) and have the following:

2 suits (navy stripped and Gray Stripped) from LS Men's clothing
3 Brooks Brothers shirts (White, Blue, White with blue squares)
Random brown Kenneth Cole Shoes I had since College
1 pair of black timberland boots
Random ties since god knows when I got them during highschool/college
Random belts as well.

I took a trip to centry 21 due to a last minute lack of a dress shirt for work tomorrow and ended up with a few new Eton ties for $35 a piece, a purple Cerruti 1881 shirt for $50 and an interesting patterned Hickey Freeman shirt for $40..

I also bought a hugo boss shirt for $70 but im not sure about the value of that one.

I saw some Canali and I think Zegna ties but I wasn't much a fan of what was available... I walked past the ferragamo ties since they cost about double.

I am pretty cost conscious at the moment... I just moved to NYC and just got a job that is based on commissions so I dunno when my first check is coming in but I got plenty in savings to increase my wardrobe...which I need to improve..

So how did I do? I've got time to return anything so feel free to criticize anything I bought. Are Eton ties any good? I hardly see anything about them on this forum other than for sale....Also, I am going to order some TM Lewin shirts as soon as a 5/100 deal shows up... Those are good quality for the money right?

I would love any tips/answers/critiques etc. Feel free! Thanks

Nothing on the Eton ties? Are there better ties for the money at century 21?

I'm not sure about Eton ties, but you may want to check out www.thetiebar.com. Ties there are all $15 and are all silk. The ones I have from there are fairly substantial fabric (not flimsy) and tie well. Also, there is a good variety of solids and patterns available.

a purple shirt?

Are you a comedian or an entertainer of some sort?

How versatile do YOU think a purple shirt is?

Would you buy a house from a youngish looking agent in a purple shirt?

At this stage of the game for you, stick with BASICS. That means boring colors but they are SAFE and versatile.
