Dear all,
Have been a watcher of this forum for a few months now, and thought it was only right that I join in. I have much to learn and hope this forum will assist me along the endless journey.
I'm 33 and newly into English shoes, though have always had an interest in mens fashion. I'm a student by day, finishing up my PhD in London. My daily dress therefore isn't a suit, more slim fit chinos, shirts and when the weather calls for it, cardigans or jumpers.
I really like Crockett & Jones shoes, their lasts suits my slim feet, they offer value for money (IMHO), and I can just about afford them. I wear proper shoes daily, even at weekends, it is an absolute pleasure to wear something so finely crafted daily. I also like Cheaney shoes, plus other brands such as Edward Green and Church's, the latter only pre-Prada.
I aspire to bespoke one day, but for the time being like made-to-measure. My tailor is Oliver J Benjamin. He has made several suits for me now, the most recent a heavy-weight grey flannel, double breasted. I favour DB and have done for the last five years or so, inspired by HRH Prince Charles. He has this wonderfully English sense of style, something I am trying to re-create, on my own terms, and pocket! Single breasted still has its place, esp. in a business setting where one needs to blend in and toe the company line.
Like many of you on this forum, along with my interest in mens fashion, I like fine watches and cars too. A Rolex is my daily wear and has been for well over 15 years now. A s/s Submariner with date. Although I have pinched my father's s/s Daytona while my watch is serviced, he has a fight on his hands in terms of getting the Daytona back. I drive a 1994 E-class Mercedes estate. Having a child means good load capacity is essential.
Anyway, I note this intro is getting to be a little too long. I look forward to getting to you know and learning more. I apologise in advance for any 'newbie' questions I may ask, please don't shoot me down, unless need-be.
With best,
SY
