New SF member and not sure where to find the answer you're looking for? Have a quick question that doesn't belong in a current thread? Welcome, you found the right place.

This is a weekly thread where new users can ask quick questions and get a solid answer. If a thread already exists that would be more helpful, we will point you in the right direction. The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked.....so ask away!

You realize that there's a standing thread with 30,000 posts and over a million views on the subject already, right?

Hello everyone. Im jst a young guy thats a rookie when it comes to shoes. But im looking to buy my 3rd pair of AE shoes, the McAllister. I jst want to know if its acceptable to wear them with jeans. Im interested in the Walnut color. Also wat abt the Strand? I hear alot of ppl say that captoe with jeans is a no no but would the Strand be acceptable since the brogue detail? Thanks!

Yes, but this is a series of shorter threads made specifically to let newbies get oriented.

Welcome to the forum, Newberry. It's not something I would do, but plenty of people around here do. Strand and McAllister are both oxfords....not for jeans in my opinion.

McAllister and Strands both work with jeans in my opinion, IF they are brown or burgundy and the jeans are a dark wash and well fitting. No black oxfords with jeans.

Hello. Do you guys think its possible to wear these with dark blue and black jeans. I know ppl say no to black cap toe with jeans but since these are boots and have a bit of extra detail, do you guys think its possible to wear them with dark jeans?...

Is it possible? Sure it is. Would I do it? No, those boots are too formal for jeans IMO. But ultimately it's your call.

Thanks for the reply. What if it was a plain toe? Also, what do u think is better with dark jeans? Lace up black dress boots or black chelsea boots? Thanks..

Your picture shows a pair of black, thin-soled, smooth calfskin punch cap dress boots--all of those elements make the boot look more formal. Look for elements that push the boot towards a more casual look: e.g. thicker commando or lugged soles or a more textured surface e.g. pebble grain leather. Chelsea boots or chukkas are a good choice as well.

These boots look green on my monitor. Plus a 360 degree storm welt and it is also a derby boot. Yes this boot will look fine with dark jeans.

I like this coat but I think it's way overpriced ($278) I can get it for like 60% off, but do you think it's really worth spending more than $100 on it?

I've also been looking at Club Monaco but it's kind of outside my budget.

Welcome to the forum, Jack. I wouldn't pay over $100 for it....look at that fabric makeup: Recycled wool/Polyester/Acrylic/Other fibers. Save up for something nicer.

Hello gents! Quick Question: Is the flaw/hole on this blazer fixable by an alterations tailor, and if so, around how much will it run me? Thank you ahead of time for any and all help!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
