What do you all think about initials on shirt cuffs. I am ordering a few Hickey shirts online tonight and they give the option for it.

If I indeed do go with this, I was thinking about trying to keep the colors the same like navy blue intials on a lighter blue shirt for example.

Is this tacky and should I not go for this options? Thanks in advance.

If I get monograms -- i.e. if there's no extra charge for them -- I prefer to get them in the yoke where they don't show. Monograms on the cuffs strike me as a bit ostentatious, although lots of folks would disagree. I think your idea of going same-on-same colorwise is a pretty good middle ground.

Don't do it. If you ever decide you want them, you can do it later, but they're a pain to remove. Plus it ruins the shirt for the guy who finds it 10-15 years from now in the thrift.

Another vote for "don't do it" -- visible, particularly that prominent is too ostentatious for me.

Ordered 4 shirts, none with monograms. Thanks for the advice all, I was trying to talk myself into it for some reason. I should have known better, asking others opinions of it should have told me it was a no-no to begin with.

I do wish they would give the option for it on the shirt tail or an unvisible location...maybe along with a manufacture date.

You can find more opinions on this in another thread:

I always have my initials added to the chest or cuff on MTM shirts, but I believe that here in Spain, it is so common that you just don't give it second thoughts. I am a bit concerned about the impression I may make when travelling abroad for business, though. However, until now it has not seemed to do me any harm...

I am about to order my first custom shirt from mytailor.com and I see the option of having the monogram on the bottom tail. I am hoping this means that the monogram will be hidden when the shirt is tucked in. Does anyone whether the monogram will be visible or not?

Only to the lint in your asscrack or if you're in the habit of wearing your shirt untucked.

it all depends on preferences. I have my last name added on my cuffs. no bg deal to me. i gave about 10 shirts to a friend who is a elementary school teacher and couldn't afford a new wardrobe. people do ask him about the last name differnet from him, but he uses it as a conversation starter and says I am his half-brother. besides, when I am famous, would not my monogramed shirt be worth a ton on ebay???

If it were free, I'd probably just get it on the inside yoke or something.

One other customary place is below the bottom left rib.

If I did monograms, that's where I'd put them.

But I don't do monograms.

I get mine on my left elbow, in a slightly darker blue than the color of my shirt. I would be suprised if anybody, but my laundry guy, ever sees it.
