A Harris, is "they" referring to Louis Boston or to George Greene? Last I went to George Greene they still carried Lattanzi and had no plans to carry Kiton shoes.

To Louis Boston, sorry for the confusion. I wish I had known about Greene when I was in Chicago in 2002. Would have loved to have seen the store...

Next time you're in Chicago be sure to get to the Northbrook shopping mall. The mall as a whole is not that great, but the Neiman-Marcus in this mall is really good. Having said that, I was also very impressed by the Beverly Hills NM.

I think the most impressive NM is Bergdorf Goodman. [IMG] Jon

Jon, While I (kind of) see your point, I still argue that the site looks a bit cheap, especially the 'swinging hangar' effect on the men's clothes. The picture that they did choose shows the back of a wrinkled jacket and does not even show off the store to good effect. I am not among those who expect LB to have an online shopping presence - that is obviously not their biz model - but that should make them more, not less, attentive to the quality of their pics. And they should commit to having a little bit more up on the web. Even sites like Harry Winston, which I'd certainly say is exclusive, have fairly rich websites which feel like some effort went into the aesthetics and the sensibility. I can't argue with the convenience of just putting up a list, but I can say that I find that both pretentious - which, I agree, is probably part of their intent (tho' they'd call it 'exclusive&#39[IMG] - and lazy. It looks to me like they couldn't be bothered to do it right. Finally, it isn't like they aren't capable of putting something decent together. The old site had a lot of nice features (including - way back when - bios of all of their associates) that emphasized Louis' strengths - service, exclusivity, a unique history - in a way that this doesn't. The least they could do would be to have a few more photos of the interior of the bldg and of some classic styles. Unlike NYC Barney's, I haven't noticed Louis drastically changing the look of their interior from season to season.

Louis list of brands isn't that exclusive, and isn't even that up to date. They dropped Paper Denim ages ago, and aren't evejn carrying Rogan any longer. And nearly all of the brands I've seen elsewhere in the States: Age: Politix, LA - better selection there too Avon Celli: numerous locations, from Scott Hill (LA) to Stonestreets (Cambridge) Barbera: Again, all over the place Belvest: Barneys nationwide Brioni: Brioni, NM, Vestimenti (L.A.) Capital Tailor: It's on Eluxury, for God's sake Cloak: Maxfield (LA: better selection) Dries van Noten: Barney's everywhere Duffer: some store in LA I forgot the name of. Ever: Saks, Eluxury Fray: NM Griffin: Ron Herman/Fred Segal Haute: Traffic, LA Incotex: NM Kiton: Vestimenti, LA, NM Lorenzini: All over - Scott & Co. in LA comes to mind Loro Piana: Again, all over Malo: Macy's, Beverly Hills Massimo: Stonestreets Neil Barrett: Barneys Nice Collective: American Rag CIE, LA and SF Rag and Bone: Atrium NYC Ruffo: NM Seal Kay - saw them on deep discount at Harry Rosen (..&#33[IMG] last weekend Steve Alan: um... at Steve Alan Trovata: Barney's, and go Clothing or another online site like it. Truzzi: A store in Atlanta (forget the name), a bunch of stores in LA Unis: I think I've seen the stuff at American Rag CIE Pretty much everything else I've seen on Yoox, at better prices, even at sale time.

I tried on a pair in dark brown suede when I was last at Louis. They were $1,800 ... nice, but not that nice.

LB is no longer under management of Murray Pearlstein, a true gentleman, but has been handed over to his daughter, aka Dragon Lady, which might explain the new direction of their Website.

Why dragon lady? Perhaps you can shed light regarding the LB situation to those of us in the dark.

There's a reason that something like 95% of all family businesses fail with the second generation, and Mr. Pearlstein's daughter, Debra, aka Dragon Lady, is an example. Just ask anyone who works at LB about Debra---A real "rhymes with rich". Thinks she knows everything and now that her beloved father is out of day-to-day operations, things will be done *her* way, or it's the highway. Picture a young Leona Helmsley and you have Debra Greenberg.

Some food for thought: Greenberg Interview Jon. I'll probably post my own little commentary later...
