Board participant spalla has identified (either here or on the Ask Andy forum) the current N&L Poulson Skone shoes as being made by Grenson. He's seen them, I haven't, and I'm not about to argue with him about shoes (or much else). If he's right, then N&L is charging quite a markup.

I have the grenson model sold by pediwear.  The picture on the N&L site appears to have a bit more of a mirror finish.  Perhaps the difference in cost is due the labor involved in spit polishing them to a mirror shine. (Insert smilie indicating great doubt here.)

The shoes will be made to New & Lingwoods "specifications", whatever that means. They might be made over a different shaped last; they definitely are made in differing width (N&L are E and Grenson F). Maybe they use different components. But nothing to warrant a premium of that size.

Spit polish you can do yourself, it just needs spit and ellbow grease.

To confuse matters further, the Poulsen & Skone shoes I saw at Dunhill in NY are made by C&J...
