Koji Suzuki (Spigola) has sent me a few samples of bespoke shoes he has made in preparation for his visit to New York in early April. The last two photos show Mr. Suzuki working in his workshop.

To be pedantic, they are hand-welted, handmade shoes.

Charles Goodyear (junior), building on previous inventions, refined and patented a method to make welted footwear by machine, so "˜Goodyear welted' refers to a machine-made shoe.

There used to be a waiting list, but Mr. Suzuki cleared it a few years ago. Still, he is very careful to limit the number of orders he takes at one time (for example, he will take only 5 on this trip to New York).

If you are in Japan-yes. If you fly in to see him from the US or if he sees you in the US-then, its not too bad.
