New Jeans, Should I soak

Ok so I got a new pair of raw jeans (my girl sent me some Uniqlo S-001 Dress up denim, Super Super Dark almost overdyed Indigo. Like they are almost black). I am fairly certain that they are raw because they fit a bit looser than my other pair of S-001s that had a wash. Anyways, since this is my first foray into the world of true raw, should I soak these things to shrink them down some? What are the advantages of soaking then wearing the denim (other than getting sweet ass blue legs)?

Thanks for answering some lame ass questions.

wow a lot of denimwhore terms being thrown around.

Im not 100% but I'm pretty sure those are not raw. They are rinsed. You dont need to soak, and I wouldn't. Still, some people do it out of habit, and its a free country.

they seem pretty damn raw, the pics on the net dont do them Justice, these things are DARK! Like I said they are same size and same model of a pair I bought previously (which i wore today) and they are noticeably more loose. They very well could be rinsed but Uniqlo is known for odd random jeans (remember the Selvage ones?)

ok, looks like ill just warm wash them to shrink a bit. I also noticed they were longer than the other pair I have. Like normally I cant cuff pants because they are usually borderline long enough as is. Hmmm, well for those interested these will show up soon in the WAYWT thread

if you need to shrink them do a hot soak, no need to wash / use detergants or anything

I'll post a quick question about soaking stuff here, too.

If you know a sz28 one-wash would be the best size, but insist on getting raw would it be adviced to get the 28raw and soak them or get the 27raw and stretch/soak?

They're sanforized, 3~4% shrink should be expected on the raw's.

Just because they're raw doesn't mean they'll shrink. They could be sanforized. I soak most of my jeans, though. Just to get rid of the crap that got into the jeans while it was being made, plus, I don't know how many people have tried the jeans on, or where they've been.

Does hot soaking work for all types of jeans, not just raw? Alternatively, what is cold soaking suppose to do.

In a nutshell, what's the best way to shrink jeans, both raw and one-wash?

I'm pretty sure soaking isn't going to shrink them, at least it didn't shrink my greenies.

If the jeans aren't raw, they've probably been treated to get almost all shrinking out of them anyway. The only reason you should expect to get any more shrinking is if you stretched them by wearing them for a while.

You only soak raw unsafornized jeans. I'm pretty sure the Uniqlo's carry those traits but I'm not completly sure.

You can shrink jeans unless they're unsafornized, which is a minority of the jeans. You can soak them back to size if they've stretched from wear, but you're generally not gonna get a pair of 33s to fit like 31s or 32s.

You can soak sanforized jeans if they've maybe stretched a bit from people trying them on, to minimize any indigo transfer, and to generally clean them before wear because they've probably been tried on before and sitting in a warehouse or store.

Um...no. Safornized jeans have been treated to shrink less.

You can go ask Uniqlo if they're safornized but this is a trait normally found in higher quality denim, er at least as far as I've seen. If you can find out then soak em for the hell of it, unless you want more of that pretty glowy look. If it turns out that they are unsafornized then they'll shrink to hell on their first wash and the wear is gonna look funky.
