New here... Need some advice

Sorry if this is in the wrong section or somethin. first off, a little background: 18 years old I'd consider myself a good looking guy - I'm tall, with an above average physique (lift weights regularly) however, I've recently been told I dress like a scumbag, lol So, I'm looking for some tips on how to dress a little more 'classy' here are a couple pics of how I pretty much dress now (flannel with some levi's and my Adidas Superstars 2 Originals - just the basic white with the black threestripes)

any advice will be much appreciated

Lose the hat, size down everything you buy 1-2 sizes, shop at J Crew / Brooks Brothers (shouldn't be impossible to afford if you buy on sale). Buy a pair of plain (not pre-distressed) DARK Levis 514s or 511s for ~$40 (size down one from your normal waist, they will stretch). Done. For shoes buy some cheap Sperrys for warm weather (wear without socks) at TJ Maxx/Marshalls for $40, and buy a pair of Clarks Desert Boots as an everyday shoe for ~$90

Huge difference right there

Thanks man. I see where you're coming from with the jeans size down, and I'll definitely get on that, but I feel like if I start buying L instead of XL shirts, isn't it gonna look too small-ish? (btw the reason the flannel in the pic with the hat looks too big is probably because it was $3... lol yes $3)

I was actually talking about the flannel. I did the same thing; used to buy Size Med when I am clearly a Small. Made a huge difference when I finally realized this. You are definitely a large. I dont think it would look too small at all, it will look better

When you wear t shirts, stick to blanks. Make sure the shoulders fit, and it doesn't look like you're wearing a blouse. The sleeves should fit close to your arm and should not be long enough to touch your elbow when standing. Definitely lose the hat. Whereever you've done your shopping now, don't do it there. Lurk around here some more - you'll get an idea of stuff you like, and where to find it. No need to splurge all at once as your interests will expand. They say you dress like a scumbag - they're right. Starting with how you dress is great, but also pay attention to how you interact with other people. I'm glad you're taking the first step to improving yourself, best of luck!

what you consider looking small-ish is probably properly fitting. look at this ocbd...

you probably think that it looks small, but it actually fits well. if you are actually in good shape, then there is no problem wearing slim fitting shirts.

It was actually someone on forums.bodybuilding.com that made the scumbag comment (it was some thread rating peoples' looks out of 10, made me realize i'll be 5x more attractive with a better wardrobe). I'm actually a nice guy in person, I'd say I'm articulate and sociable, not really scumbaggish haha, it's just the clothes.

Haha, like they dress any better. I guess it's because you weren't a bro wearing a wifebeater. I usually respond sarcastically to these special flower topics, but this one seemed genuine to me. You'll find a lot of regular posters here seem to snark a lot. Don't worry about that, they're just pmsing. And donate/give away 99% of your current wardrobe, I'm sure it's terrible.
