my apologies if this has been posted already (been travelling too much to be around) but i just read it this week but didn't see it posted on any of the back pages

the husband and wife team of nicole and michael colovos, the founders and former designers for habitual, were named as the new designers for helmut lang

apparently they suddenly left habitual and neither the corporate owner of habitual, pacific marketing works, or the colovoses will disclose any reasons

the first collection will be s/s 2007 out of nyc and although they will not be re-creating what lang did, they are reviewing his archives for inspiration and will continue on with the minimalist nature and sharp tailoring of lang but combininig it with their own sensibility and experimentation with fabric as they did with habitual

time will tell if this will be a success but it's an interesting choice

Habitual is a high-end jeans line, with a Maltese Cross, often featured prominently on the back pocket, as a signature. The denim is decent, and the washes are nice and pretty understated, usually with a grey cast to the denim. They make a lot of skinny jeans for women, which seem to fit pretty well. The pricepoint seems to be $175-$225.

Helmut Lang without Helmut Lang isn't really Helmut Lang. I look forward to the work, but I really hope the quality doesn't suffer as a result of the 'caste' Theory put on them.

Habitual's rock-star aesthetic doesn't seem to fit so well with Helmut Lang's minimalism and futurism. Oh well. Hoping for the best anyway.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
