Here is my new creation for a NYC customer (I hope he will see them here). The last is the new interpretation of the old Budapest last - a bit longer, a bit more elegant - I would say just the new demands for an old model. (I think I should make something like this for myself..

No. I think we have the same inspiration - Hungarian traditions.

There is a story, how the traditional Hungarian-style last came into existence: Hungarian peasants were in the habit of wearing their shoes oversized and stuffing them out with straw.

That served the Hungarian army very well during the first World war. While the Austrian army wore correctly fitting boots........and had their feet frost-bitten, the Hungarian army had oversized boots filled with straw..........and had no problems with frost-bites.

While it is a beautifully made shoe, the last doesn't speak to me: it seems neither fish nor fowl. A compromise last with integrity, in my view, would be the Vass Neue Peter.

I believe this gentleman talked about the sole decoration. I made this sole decoration in 1989, when I passed my shoemaker trade school final exam (I can prove it - I still have that pair!
), and I also have an old pair (I guess 90 years old - with these nail decoration - pretty much used, but visible. BTW triangle was a very common symbol in finishing here.

I have never designed talking lasts..
Anyway thanks for your appreciation. I believe the next one will be closer to the western taste.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
