new belt, new shoes, two questions

1. Should I apply leather conditioner to a new belt?

2. If I want to re-sole some AE shoes, should I get it done by AE, or will a good cobbler do exactly the same thing?

If the belt doesn't seem dried out because of storage or somesuch, I wouldn't worry about conditioning it. As for the shoes, a good cobbler will do the same thing as AE, and much cheaper, if all you want is a resoling.

I do as well. Once a belt starts developing cracks, there's no going back.

Cool, thanks. Just got my Amazon-special AE belt. It's great.

Seriously? My favourite belt is about eight years old Hugo Boss (that's right, folks) belt and it shows no signs of developing cracks after literally thousands of wearings. Does this really happen?

An AE refurb job can not be matched by any cobbler. They basically remove the uppers and run them trough the whole manufacturing processes, on the appropriate last.

On cheaper ones, yes.

Yes. I've had it happen. Especially if you wear it in hot, sweaty environs.
