Stopped in today on 57th. The new store is very nice. It is smaller, but they still have some gems. Women's handbags on the first floor, silver etc. on the second floor, and men's on the third floor.

There is much more to the building - I wonder what they are going to put on the other floors.

On the third floor, they had Lattanzi shell brown shell cordovan loafers for $875. Bargain, if you ask me! I have the same style in buffalo and love them.

So, all in all, much small selection, but it's still a nice shop, and I look forward to seeing what they are going to do with it.

Is it the same old store between Mad and Park that they remodelled or is there another store on 57?

That's the one I went in. Is it only temporary or is that their new permanent home?

I'm not sure. I was there in June and it looked pretty permanent to me. I didn't know it was a new location. It's a great store - much nicer than the one they had in the Trump tower IMO (was that designed by Foster btw?)

They just had a thing today about their old place in Trump Plaza going to Gucci. Man, Asprey was paying $1300/ft there...

What was the reason for the move, they needed less space?

I'd heard that the sales couldn't support the rent...

Didn't they almost go bankrupt and got acquired by some hedge fund(s)?

I don't think the sales of any of the stores in that area support the rent. Gucci has a huge space and with every 50th person leaving with a bag, I doubt they're pulling it in hand over fist and making their rent.

Someone posted a great article on AAAC about boutiques that are supported by the 35$ bottles of cologne these companies sell nationwide in chain dept stores. Stores themselves seem to be no more than a form of advertising.

Asprey is currently located at the old Holland & Holland location. I believe the next tenant after H&H was Jacob the Jeweler, or perhaps that was/is a few doors down? But definitely the former H&H townhouse.

Yeah, their rent was a million $ a month, plus they had spent many millions renovating it. It cost them a lot to break that lease.

i think they thought initially they could take on LV and pursue the same strategy of selling to tourists and new money, etc. but the clientele of LV and Asprey are so different they might as well come from different planets. i can imagine most of their customers prefer shopping in the H&H townhouse compared to their showy store at trump tower.

I was told the 57th St. location was supposed to be temporary and they were looking for a townhouse on Madison Ave. Both Old Bond St. and Trump Tower locations were designed by Lord Norman.

I think Madison Ave. is a better match than Fifth Ave. Mad. is more suitable for carriage trade vs. 5th is for mass market luxury brands such as LV, Gucci and Prada.
