Never owned a watch before and need some help with selecting one please!!!

Hello Styleforum,

My name is Matt and this is my first post on Styleforum, I would greatly appreciate any help! I recently graduated college and will be starting work in Private Wealth Management. I have never owned a watch before and am looking to spend up to $1,000 and possibly a little bit more for my first watch. I am open to buying a used watch that would be in that price range.

- I am looking for a black genuine alligator strap and a dark colored face on the watch. (would be willing to buy the strap separately if need be)

- Nothing flashy or gaudy.

- I do not want something that you can buy in a department store with a big brand name on it.

I don't really know anything at all about watches and have started my research but need some help. I am not making this post out of laziness from not wanting to do my own research, but rather to get some ideas and information that I do not know where to look for. As I said before, any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
