Now on ebay.

These are deadstock vintage Nettleton shell cordovan longwings, sized 9 C/E (combination last). When I purchased them I was not aware they were an E width. As my foot is narrower the fit is--very regrettably--not there. I think they would likely work for a lot of D widths, as they don't seem that wide, but enough to knock me out of the running.

Nettleton no longer exists, but was the equivalent--if not superior to--Alden in its heyday. Alden shell longwings retail for $505 , and AE shell longwing MacNeil for $440.

Measurements: insole, 11 3/16", outsole, 12 3/8" x 4 1/2"

Alan,
Beautiful shoes. Wish they were 1/2" narrower, but then you probably wouldn't be selling them

Do you by any chance have one in a 10.5? These are amazing shoes. I have worn NOS Nettletons in the past. I would rate them better than Allen Edmonds in the "solid" feeling of the construction.

Wow, Alan, those are quite something. They look like the kind of shoes the Trads wear when they're getting ready to go stomp on some dandies.

Not my size, but just beautiful. I like it, the shell cordovan.

Only after knocking ice cream cones out of the hands of small children.

Oscarthewild, I don't have any other pairs of these. I wish I did have a stash.

I bought a pair of Nettleton shell cordovan saddle shoes on ebay last year. The stitching is finer than Alden, the leather is softer, and the leather also takes a better shine. Overall, they're excellent shoes, comparable to my Grenson masterpieces, but without channelled soles, IIRC (so better made than Alden). Alan, if your shoes were 12D, they'd be mine already!

I though cordovan was usually a burgundy-type color. These look black. Are they black and can you explain what "cordovan" is as it relates to shoes.
Thanks

Well -- two minutes of Google research on "shell cordovan" and I feel like a horse's ass!

Those are fantastic.

To echo others sentiments, if those were a 13 i'd be interested.

They are not black, closer to the classic #8 burgundy, but perhaps with more of a brownish tone.

Just taken outside in the sun:

Here are some pictures of them not taken by me:
