A bunch of coworkers pitched in and got a NeaCafe machine. It uses these big pods, what's the scoop on those? The machine looks like a Martian.

My Lattissima is 19 bars. There is a $100 credit special right through some time in January. Basically, buy a machine and you get $100 to spend on pods.
I was in Sur la Table yesterday, and decided to give it another try. They only had the green pods ("Capriccio") so that's what I tasted. It's not bad, and better than many commercial espressos, but nowhere near the best. It was light in body, low-fruit, low-acidity, low-chocolate flavor, a little nutty, with a very short aftertaste, but it was balanced. It was inoffensive and not very memorable.
edit: some additional comments. The Nespresso lady repeated the "15 bar" extraction pressure claim again, which I find very bizarre because normal espresso extraction is 9 bar, and there's not much you gain from increasing the pressure. The extraction time was about 10 seconds, which is very fast. It was about 5 seconds from when I heard the pump go on to about 5-6 more seconds when the last drip of coffee came out. A normal espresso extraction (at least for the double-dosed 3rd wave stuff) is about 24 seconds total. It was on the normal setting, neither lungo nor ristretto.

i bought my machine in early november, anyway to get the $100 promotion?
Take it back and get them to return and rebuy it so your new receipt has the proper date.
