My tolerance for espresso that I find acceptable by work now has reached an all time low after getting my machine...

Anyone seen the new machines? They're kind of sweet. The price is ridiculous though.

Co-worker just told me my nespresso machine sounds exactly like his wife's breast milk pump.

Honestly, it is a million times better than chasing grail shots. I love mine. There are a few cafes I get espresso at, but other than those it is all nespresso for espresso.

:hide: i've been chasing grail shots for awhile. it's honestly like a bad relationship. every time you get another bad shot you think you've had it and you're ready to break up, but then that one shot always reels you back in.

i had the most wonderful shot today after trying 7, 8 times from that new coffee shop. i was ready to give up, but now i want back in. :fu:

For me it is either french press or nespresso.

People bitch about the price per pound of coffee, but it is bullshit really because with espresso there is so much waste and on top of that I am constantly searching for fresh beans and throwing out old ones that go bad because I haven't used them after ~10 days. From a financial perspective it is a lot cheaper.

I was being generous. After 7 my beans went right into the garbage.

So how do you manage your capsules? Do you drive to the factory, grab the freshly pressed capsules and then instantly pour a shot? Because otherwise, there would be too much oxidization. ;)

I don't have a problem with Nespresso. But trying to justify it as being cheaper (or better) is just nuts. The only positive aspect is: easy to use. And that's an important one for many.
Negative ones are: no idea what coffe is in there; too few coffee for a real shot; cheap pump; much garbage; age of coffee; no customization (pressure, beans, temperature, longevity of the machine, ...).

They are hermetically sealed, so in theory, they're still fresh for long after production.

Actually they tell you exactly what coffee is in each capsule, and the grind and pump are all calibrated to be used with the capsules. It is idiot proof and a lot of human interaction and variables are removed, that is why it IS good.
