FW08 is up on the Nepenthes site. Somereally nice stuff, some ugly, some plain weird.

Does anyone have insight into the concepts behind the line? From the lookbook styling its seems to be alot more "intellectual" than EG, but how does theEg style fatigue pants, or the fur lined vest fit into that vibe?

Don't know too much about the brand outside of what I see in the pics. Here's a little blip about it on Men.Style.Com: While designer Daiki Suzuki has earned (deserved) praise for Engineered Garments, Nepenthes, his line's parent company, isn't widely known outside Japan. That state of affairs will likely be remedied when Needles, another one of the company's brands, sees larger distribution in the U.S. next spring. (Their Fall collection is currently sold exclusively at Odin New York). Designed by Keizo Shimizu, who founded Nepenthes back in '88, Needles' new fare has a quirky Western vibe and rumpled bohemian sensibility, not to mention an attention to detail that makes the clothes both covetable and entertaining—if, you know, you're into quirky, bohemian Westerners.

ive come to the conclusion that I love the f/w cord suit. Both jacket and pants look amazing. Where is this available?

and if this is on the hard/impossible side, how else makes a comparable cord suit?

Can you link to the pic of the cord suit? Haven't paid attention to Needles releases in the JP sites. Don't know if it's out yet.

In the states, I believe for this season the Needles line is only available at Odin. I don't know how much it's going to cost, but it will be more expensive than in Japan. I would suggest using a Japan proxy if it's not available in Europe. Sharpservice over in the SuFu Supermarket is pretty good.

love the cut and details, especially on the pants. The jacket is rather pricey, dont know if i´d dare order anything that expensive from jp...

Needles SS09 is up on the Nepenthes site, even more quirky, esoteric stuff this time. The only things I like are the DB jacket and leather bomber.

Very quirky! Its hard to understand what they´re going for, but parts of the collections seems to be very inspired by 70s western "formal wear", western inspired suits and so on. Rather difficult to understand who´d wear it, except for some eccentric japanese people.

In the showroom, you can definitely tell the differences between the strictly workwear inspired Engineered Garments, and the much more eclectic Needles, which draws from a wider range of vintage styles. A lot of the colors are very vibrant colors from the 70s and stitchwork from "costume" westernwear, including roped some use of leather fringing. And there is use of materials like rayon rather than the cotton and wool that dominate There were some amazing blue Norwegian moutaineering boots. Day to day, I would definitely favor Engineered Garments, but Needles, I love looking at Needles.

+1000 First thing I noticed, pretty terrible, not often you see it that bad, really distracts you from the clothes. Btw that linen double breasted casual 'suit' from SS09 is very cool
