Well, it depends. on my ipod there's

    Rush - Natural Science
    Beethoven 7th symphony - 4th mvmt (Kleiber)
    Shostakovich 5th symphony - 4th mvmt (Bernstein)
Survivor - Eye of the Tiger
    Robbie Williams - Kids
Iron Maiden - Aces High (live)
    The Police - Synchonicity
    Blink-182 - Dammit

Among others. They work for me. Then again I blend up-tempo work with slower paces so I don't wear myself out.

If you like electronic music you can try Podrunner.com for free music to run to at a variety of different beat speeds.

Podcasts. Podrunner is a little cheesy/eurotrash sometimes, but bmp is consistent.

Thanks, will give it a try. Edit: I ran with Podrunner today, it's exactly what I was looking for. Nice mix with a tempo I can run to. I hate running, but it seems much more tolerable with good music.

I put some Spice Girls on my ipod the other day, and some of those tunes don't don't suck - for running. I've got to dial back into my shuffle sequence cause yesterday was roughly two hours of running bliss.

+1. A number of folks did 45 minute mixes for Nike last year or two years ago--I like LCD's the best. PM if you want more info.

I also like M83, Chemical Brothers (starguitar is great), Daft Punk generally, and fast-paced rock/punk/hardcore for intervals. If you run long-distance a lot, I also recommend talk podcasts to help you focus on something other than the run--I listen to back issues of the Adam Carolla show and Bill Simmons a lot.

When I used to run (stopped because I jacked my back badly) my favorite albums were Cali punk.

Strung Out - Twisted By Design
Propagandhi - How To Clean Everything
    NOFX - Punk In Drublic
    Pully - Esteem Driven Engine
    Lagwagon - Hoss
    ...you get the picture

Now I try to speed-walk and those seem too fast [IMG] so I switched to Indy Rock stuff
Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Los Campesinos!, Hot Hot Heat, etc....

I like to listen to trance etc. especially ambient vocal trance. but i think some good running songs would be....also if you can try to get some trance around the world sets by above and beyond. they are about two hours with some great up tempo trance.

I run w/o music, but Fatboy Slim might be good. Or The Orb? Good startup songs, anyhow. And that could take you into more avant-garde realms, like Steve Reich's uptempo music. Sounds weird, but some of that actually gets kind of fast.

Anyone have other podcast suggestions beyond podrunner? I keep looking for a weekly show featuring an hour of new dance, pop, and indie, or a wickedly funny and intelligcent talk show, but so far not much success.
