I threw together a little web site with the suit I just got off eBay and some ties to go with it. If you guys could take a look and tell me what tie or ties will look best with the suit, your help will be greatly appreciated. http://www.geocities.com/nektopoli/ NP

They all look decent, although that one bright red Armani tie might be a little too harsh on the eyes.

I'll go ahead and ask: What are your hair/eye/skin colors?

i actually only really like the very first armani tie (the bright red one labelled as #23 under the picture) as it has some excitement and flare to it, the rest are a bit blah

I think a choice of tie is an individual decision, that reflects your personal tastes. Best case scenario, it's always better to take a suit jacket or sportcoat to the store with you when purchasing a tie, having the sales associate lay out a shirt and suggest possibilities from which you can select one that fits your tastes. A close second is selecting a jacket from the store's stock that is similar to yours.

That being said, I like (brand-wise) ties from borrelli, brioni, zegna, robert talbott, turnbull and asser-- and rarely stray outside these bounds. zegna is as far down the quality tree as I'll go; great wovens, respectable construction.

for some reason i'm never able to enter any geocities sites. they always seem to be down? can someone help?

a lot depends on your coloring. also to give you advice we'd need to know where you're going to wear these ties. like foxx said, if you're a beginner it's okay to simply ask your wife or a salesgirl which tie looks best with your outfit. but ideally, clothes are an expression of your unique personality and eventually you're going to need to trust yourself with these decisions.

I'm not a huge fan of most of those ties. The tie you show with the suit is probably the best choice there by far.

Assuming that you will wearing a plain white shirt, I think that you need a bolder, more audacious pattern to pick up the wide pinstripes. I'm not generally a big fan of Brioni ties, but one of their bolder baroque patterns with bright highlights (some gold or silver, perhaps?) might do well in this case. You might want to rethink the rep stripe ties and smaller rep patterns.

Another option I think would work would be to eschew patterns altogether and go with a solid colored tie, perhaps with a tonal pattern.

Good luck.

My picks:

Hugo Boss #8
Gucci #6
Zegna #17
D&G #27 (could look really good, or not, hard to know without seeing it for real)
Versace #11

It's a nice suit. very versatile.

I like the suit but honestly all the ties are plain boring and dull.

If I had to choose one of the ties I would choose the dimgrey Armani Collezione - I have literally looked at 1000s of Armani ties and NEVER found one worth buying.  This one is the best of a motley lot,  BUT I WOULDN'T WEAR IT WITH THIS SUIT - too matching.

Instead I would go for something colourful to offset the "classic" colour and look of the Versace suit.

I would go for a colourful woven tie, usually English in style (if not origin) rather than Italian: say something like Breuer, Duchamp, Richard James, Charvet, Charles Tyrrwhitt, et al. Say a basketweave style or geometric motif. Add a beautiful Sea Island plain white shirt and voila.

Strait up...those ties are quite hideous. Sorry.

When it comes to selecting and matching ties, my belief is that "simple is better" or "less is more." Many people like to get caught-up in the details, patterns and/or shapes of a tie, often creating disaster and ruining an ensemble. The 'simplest' tie you have from the lot would perhaps be the Gucci #6 - the one in red. Red looks good with our complexion and if you work it with the correct shirt it's a done deal.
