I really need a jumping off point, wandered around blindly today with no luck and no knowledge of where to go

I saw some Tom Ford's at Holt Renfrew for $2400 though

I've seen some at Harry Rosen. I'm not sure exactly what they carry, you're better off buying online to be honest.

Vancouver is a wasteland for men's shoes you can get AE at Harry's and some independent chains...other than that you SOL..you could try the bay they had some loakes, but nothing exciting

i suggest you seek help from overseas and buy some C&J's

Pediwear or Plal is a good start for CJs, Herrings is also good for Churches...also have a seconds section.

However, you have to be consider sizing. I fit into 3 different sizes on the Loake line - 6.5, 7 on the loafer (depending on the last) and a 7.5 on the boot. I had to return a pair to Herrings because it was too big, and it cost $50 for shipping.
