I'm home for the holidays, so chronic boredom will soon set in if I don't have some stuff to read. Currently there's a backlog on my bookshelves, but I'd like to set that aside and pick up some current events books.

What are the best ones out there on Iraq? Current federal politics? Glenn Greenwald's "How Would a Patriot Act?" looks good, and I think I'll start with that.

Has 'The Caste' been translated into English? It's worth a read.

I've been meaning to read Zbigniew Brzezinski's book Second Chance: Three Presidents and the Crisis of American Superpower. Maybe I'll get to it over the break as well.

The Great War for Civilisation is epic and ******* superb. I haven't had time to find a copy yet, but What We Say Goes looks pretty interesting. I haven't read either book rambo suggested (though I have heard good things), but the best book on Iraq in my opinion is Patrick Cockburn's Occupation. Scahill's really good, so if you're interested in military privatization, there's really no better starting point. When Klein was talking about The Shock Doctrine on NPR for a few minutes, it sounded pretty facile and silly, but I ran across a few lectures she gave and it's actually a lot more substantive than I expected. If you're interested in privatization and neoliberal policy more broadly, it's pretty interesting. Are there any specific topics you're looking for?
