I did another antiquing project since the last one posted here. This time is on a wingtip balmoral in black, and here is the result. Not sure what suit color can match this pair. Maybe not with a suit. Comments? Before (click thumbnail to enlarge) After

Let the antiquing games begin.

not sure if this can be done with all black shoes?? I had the understanding that some black leather was dyed through and through.

Pretty cool - obviously not an everyday shoe, but great to spice it up a bit. It would be fun to see some intermediate pictures during the process. Nice job. Perhaps wear them with a patterned (e.g., plaid or check) 'country' suit?

over the weekend there were intermediate pics which were cool to see even if you don't like the end result. i think overall it's admirable job, esp. considering starting with black. i would like it if the black spots were toned down some. to the op, i think you should repost the "process" pics.

If it bleeds, you can kill it.

I think you can and should take a little more black off. Looks great though.

I appreciate all your kind words and encouragement. jimmyoneill, thanks for posting that berluti wingtip, they were my reference in this project. Instead of chestnut, I chose burgundy for my Chesters because I wanted versatility. If you recall, they were initially black. Here are pics of how they are finally, after many hours of work. I like my Chesters better this time, thanks to your critique. I'll post some in-the-works pics soon. Initially Previously Finally (click image to enlarge)

I'm not a big fan of colored shoes with suits, or heavy antiquing-- but those would look awesome with a medium grey flannel suit.
