Good evening,

I need a little help finding something. I'm looking for a lightweight 3/4-length topcoat. Cashmere, cashmere/wool, or wool. I'm in San Francisco so the weather is never very cold.

Waterproof would be nice, but just for drizzle; I don't think I'm going to wear it in the rain. Epaulettes would be a plus, I like the way they square-off my shoulders. I'm not a big fan of shoulder pads.

I prefer a fitted look, and I find many topcoats look better when pulled in slightly at the waist. I could get the coat tailored, but it's better if it was designed to come in at the waist.

Not sure about zippers, single- or double-breasted, etc. I am 6'2", 200lbs, athletic build, between 42R and 44R. Prefer a darker colour. I'll wear the coat with jeans/shirt and slacks/shirt, rarely if ever with a jacket underneath.

Recommendations? Opinions?

Thanks,
Will

I think what you are looking for makes a lot of sense in the Bay Area. There are some nice 3/4 trench style jackets at Burberry that are fitted and quite stylish. They also come in a nice selection of colors including navy.

I think you will have a hard time finding anything in wool or cashmere in that style right now as most of that would be in fall/winter that most retailers have already tried to closeout. But, maybe you will get lucky and find something at a massive discount.

I guess you could try MJK - he's gota template for a cotton overcoat that matches your description and - who knows - may be interested in making a wool one.

I like it, but I'm not sure about the right breast strap thingy. I also prefer no belt and no straps on the wrists. Oh, plus it's only in cotton and only offered in size small. Otherwise it's perfect! Oh, plus I prefer navy or charcoal.

If you're familiar with MJK, he makes a lot of things to order. His website inventory is always very low. He is also very much open to new designs (like the SF thermal cardigan hoodie last year) - so maybe you could start a thread in SW&D lobbying for the exact design you're looking for?
