So yea looking for a nice, modern peacoat. Maybe have some details that differ it from other plain peacoats. Thanks.

Any names spark your interest?

I have heard good things about the Banana Republic stuff.

Stay away from any/all of those. You can drop by a military surplus store and pick up the real thing for $50, sometimes less. Cheaper, warmer, and sturdier than any designer peacoat I've ever tried.

agreed, banana's coat is terrible.

I bought the j.crew one last year. wore it a lot.

But i wish I went with the Club Monaco one. around the same price range, but it had better detailing , construction, and materials.

The reviews for this coat show it as a poor fit (for someone with a narrow build).

And it doesn't list the composition ... so is this an unlined coat that is not 100% wool?

SpooPoker is correct.
If you post this in the "streetwear" section you'll have more replies.
That being said, oroy38 is right on the money.
Go to an army surplus store or buy a military-spec one from Alpha Industries or Schott.

I heard the ones you find at military surplus stores are itchy as hell, but that might have been old information. Anybody know if that's still the case?

Gotta agree. You may not be able to find one that has the exact fit characteristics you are looking for. Military surplus coats are also typically meant to be worn in the field so they are very sturdy and very very thick. I am pretty sure that I could us mine instead of bullet proof armor.

Not true at all. The wool is very coarse and thick, but the jacket has a liner in the torso and sleeves.

You'll also find that the military issue ones fit fairly slim throughout the torso and have quite high armholes. They were cut so that soldiers and seafaring men could retain mobility while staying warm.

Really? I heard the Sterlingwear Authentic is cut like a box. I'm a 38R in most jackets and I was going to get a 38 (as I have broad shoulders) and have it taken in at the waist, bad idea?
