IMO, if you want to get on the dressier side, stick w/ cap toe or perforated cap toe. something like

or if you want to dress down a bit, blucher/derby or wingtip. something like
    [IMG]

alden or allen edmonds if you prefer american.

Don't skimp on shoes, get the best you can afford. I have some 25 year old Church's that are still going strong even after one resole and one recraft.

I would advice you to buy the cheap shoes James posted.

    Those shoes are genuinely heinous.

The last place to skimp is on shoes. The difference in quality between a cheap brand of shoes and a real brand of shoes is miles wide. Think of it this way...would you rather buy something for $300 that with routine care and recrafting will run you about $550 over 10 years, or buy 5 pairs of crap shoes at $100 a pair that will barely make it two years each? To me, the answer is quite obvious.

I'm a big Allen Edmonds supporter as I would rather buy good and not great shoes and keep the price difference between them and the premium and ultra premium brands.

The biggest piece of advice though is to get yourself properly measured. I'd venture that 80-85% of the population is wearing the wrong sized shoe on the wrong last for their feet. A well constructed and well fitting shoe will eliminate ANY foot pain. If your foot hurts and you're not a routine runner, you're wearing the wrong shoes.

Also - are you sure that the suit is the right size? Even more men wear a suit one size too big.

While I agree with most everything you said, the bolded part is just not accurate. There are a number of reasons one could have foot pain.

Fair enough. I was referring specifically to shoe related foot pain and was a bit cryptic in my late night post.
