Hey guys, so I've got an event coming up and I wanted to get some opinions on shirt colors/styles.
I'm wearing a black suit and orange tie. I could just go with a plain white shirt but I'd rather dress it up a bit. I was thinking maybe a striped lavender shirt?

Idk, let me know what you guys think. All suggestions appreciated

What type of event? Burnt or day glow orange? I’m just trying to visualize it

Hermès orange isn’t bad.

Light blue, light pink, or light lavender would work I think. Subtle stripes or plain solid.

Since it’s not black tie and your wearing a suit you have a little leeway

Dear god. Sorry, but those combinations sound absolutely horrible. Orange and pink and light blue are daytime colors and get washed out in the dark. Do you want to look sophisticated or like a school boy?

You’re going to an evening formal. That means high contrast attire. Dark suit, white shirt. You seem fond of your orange tie, so wear it if you must, but a dark tie would be better. Night time is about contrast. Sunshine is for colors.

His suit color isn’t a problem. Black is great for evening formals. Navy is good too, but black is arguably cooler, younger, hipper, more sophisticated. Arguably. :)

Didn’t seem like he wanted a white shirt so I suggested light colors that might work. An orange tie is hard to work with but it might be a school color or something. For myself almost all my dress shirts are plain white I prefer it.

But as an aside hasn’t artificial lighting effectively killed the day versus night about as much as central heat and air killed the warm versus cold? I mean who last attended an indoor evening event that was dark?

Lights are likely dim or dimmed at evening events. High contrast, low color is still better. :)

Makes sense

To me dress shirts and pocket squares are both white in just about all situations

Orange is still a hard color to match to.

You can see why I've been mulling it over in my head quite a bit. I'm probably just going with a white shirt. Normally I would just go with a darker tie for an evening formal event but I'm going w/ a little more variety this time.
