im 17..going to prom and i need to buy a suit with the limited amount of cash i have in my account (1300$)

I'm very stylish and brand oriented when it comes to casual wear (true religions, and whatnot), but i know i cant afford any big name suits with the money i have left...

i've heard good things about zara and h&m for the price

im looking for a black suit with a slim fit..im going to wear a white dress shirt under and a red tie (top button unbuttoned, for the loose, more modern look).

are there any suggestions for this look i want to achieve? prom is in a month..so i have time.

any help or pictures would be appreciated! thanks!

**note.. ive been to h and m alot (not for suits before) and i remember looking for the right size was a pain considering everyone bought theirs from there..

oh and im 6'0..175 pds (lean)

Let me say, in advance, that you're going to get crucified here. However, I'll try to be as constructive as possible (I, too, am 17) 1. $1,300 is a lot of money to spend. Obviously you won't want to spend it all on a suit, but it's not a bad sum

2. Technically speaking, you probably shouldn't wear a suit to a prom, ideally you should wear a tuxedo. However, if you're conscious about standing out, and nobody else will wear one, then I guess you should stick with a black suit. 3. For the price, and for the amount of usage you'll probably get from it, H&M and Zara are indeed good value for money, especially at our age. --- Now for the string of comments you're likely to receive: 4. 'Fashion' is not the same as 'style'. 5. You don't need your top button undone for a 'loose, modern look'. If you have a slim black suit, bright white shirt and relatively slim red tie (boring choice, by the way) you'll look pretty modern as is. 6. Make sure you wear nice shoes

+1
That is a lot of money to spend. Try to look at some local outlets if you have the time. Also, get a pocket square.

Where are you located? I'm assuming you probably need a job for an interview now considering this thread is 4yro. -Richard

Aren't a little young to buy a suit? Why don't you just rent one.
