Need fabric advice for WW Chan suit

I'm going to have a suit made with WW Chan when they visit NY for their upcoming tour. I'm going with a navy blue two button and it will be my go to suit. I know this may be a bit general, but can you make some suggestions about the best year round fabric choice for this? I've been reading several older posts on similar subjects and several names come up like Holland and Sherry, Dormeiul, Zegna, Scabal, etc, but know very little about each of these. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a navy suit from them in Smith's 11.5 oz finmeresco. Love it. Great year-round fabric. 4 ply, so very durable and wrinkle-resistant. Drapes beautifully.

Those all all very good cloths and really can't go wrong. Zegna has a good range of choices.

For suits using those cloths the suits price will range from $1500USD and up.

If this is your first order with Chan, I suggest VBC 110. It's a good useful year-round fabric. It will be a good choice for a "starter suit" with Chan because it will be one of their least expensive options. After Patrick has had a chance to refine your pattern, then go with the more expensive fabrics if you wish.

I suggest a Holland and Sherry Super 100 or 120 worsted. Depending on the cloth you choose they come in 9,10 or 11 oz weight. I've lived in the UK and Australia and these cloths were extremely resilient and I could wear them all year round. In UK winter's I would supplement with an overcoat of course.

Holland and Sherry are a top choice fabric but you might wish to consider Dugdale also. The Dugdale website will yield an impressive selection of fabric swatches for you to view and contemplate in advance of your adventure.

I purchased 4.5m of H&S Super 100 and 120's about a month ago and the price per metre was $AUD140 and $AUD 160 respectively. 4.5m is for a 2 trouser SB suit. We're all different sizes though so 4.5m is a guide only.

This is actually very good advice. I HATE it when wool becomes shiny, and nobody here seems to commiserate with me on the topic; at least, nobody will advise on fabrics that tend towards developing a shine vs. those that do not. ... So thank you.

How did the knees become shiny? About the only way I can imagine would be if you spent a lot of time kneeling in prayer. If this has been the case, I certainly commend your piety and devotion.

Not sure these days. I believe it might still be less than $1,400 (US). A quick e-mail to Chan would give you an exact answer, but I believe they are in the throes of moving from Kowloon to Central HK right about now.

Interesting about the knees, Mr. Pink. I've had my suit about 3.5 yrs and it hasn't gotten shiny. I wear it a lot too. But I brush it after every wear. Hasn't been cleaned yet, fwiw.

That said, JLib is probably right about VBC for a first suit, particularly if you'll be having it made while on tour.

Don't know how or why the knees became shiny, and praying while wearing a suit isn't a common activity for me. I also brush my suits after wear. Of course, my experience is only one data point, so take it for what it's worth.
