(X-posted from the tailoring thread)

Guys,

Recently I purchased this Brooks Brothers 1818 Madison blazer. 42S. My build is short and stocky (fat). Am concerned about the fit on this. How does this fit me? What alterations should I get, if any? I might return for a sack fit in hopes of getting a more natural shoulder.

Thank you!

I would go for a shoulder adjustment so that it fits more naturally

It's hard to tell how this fits on you because of the angle you took the photo at. It looks like you set your cam high therefore I can't tell how long the jacket really is. But in any case it looks like you got a size too small. It's actually not bad around the waist but the chest looks too small which is causing the lapels to bow out a little. The shoulders are definitely too small and that, along with the sleeve pitch and probably the squareness of the back are causing shoulder divots, rumpling on the back of the sleeve and a slight wave in the shoulder padding. The seat looks a little small too, causing the back vent to come open and some rumpling around the back waist.

All things considered I would suggest that you try one size up and have it taken in as needed by a good tailor.
