Need advice for rebuilding wardrobe

Hello all,
I have the bittersweet opportunity to completely rebuild my wardrobe due to a gradual yet significant decrease in body weight. I have recently realized that nothing fits me anymore, and I must now begin the process of rebuilding. But this isn't a matter of just going and having shirts made, suits fitted, etc. I am still in the process of losing weight, so whatever I buy now will not fit me and either have to be gotten rid of or tailored to fit.

So I am faced with the challenge of building a very minimalist wardrobe using the fewest pieces possible, while allowing for some variety and fun along the way. So as of now, I have in my wardrobe: 1 x Light khaki slacks from Brook's Bros, so they are the dressier option for "casual" wear. 1 x dark blue jeans. 1 x light blue oxford with button down collar. 1 x white dress shirt with point collar. light pink large check design button down short sleeve sport shirt. Medium brown textured wool blazer. And lastly a Hickey Freeman sport coat in a medium brown/orange/blue check pattern. (I can upload photos of anything soon, just don't have them on the computer I'm posting from now.) I have several ties, and enough shoes to get by for now.

My thoughts are that I should attempt to find a decent navy blazer and a pair of gray flannel slacks, and those items along with what I currently have should allow for a decent amount of mixing and matching, while not requiring me to spend a small fortune on something that won't fit in six months. That will give me something that I can at least subdue for a funeral (navy blazer, gray slacks, white shirt, black tie), and dress up with any of the other items that I have. I'm asking for anyones opinion and possibly combinations that I haven't thought of. I will actually upload photos later of everything I have, so as to make it much simpler. Thanks in advance for the advice.

As far as shirts go, your arm length won't change, and your neck size probably won't change very much either. So buy a couple of decent shirts that fit you now, and after you lose more weight, you can slim down the shirts a bit, for example with darts.

More or the less the same applies to trousers. Your legs won't get any shorter, but as you get slimmer, you can have the pant legs and waist taken in a bit to keep up with your body changes.

Shoes, ties, socks won't need to be replaced at all, so make sure those items are decent quality from the get go.

Veremund, I suppose I need to talk to a local tailor and find out what her abilities are as far as making alterations. There is a chance that I have just assumed that it would be way too pricey, but even if it costs half of a new pair of trousers to get the existing ones altered, then I'm still getting them for half price basically.

I advise you donate or sell your old wardrobe

Buy:

One solid navy blue suit (jacket can be used as a blazer)
Two pairs of chinos
Three pairs of jeans
Three long sleeve shirts
Five t-shirts/polo shirts
Five various sweaters

As Tupac said, “You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks, or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened... or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the **** on.”

Slimming down shirts and trousers is seriously basic stuff. A tailor that can't do that is not a tailor. It's not expensive, and will certainly be much cheaper than buying a new wardrobe every 4 weeks. :nodding:
