I know everyone on here throws out names like AE and other quality shoe brands, but I'm having hard time finding the right "style" of shoes for my taste. Those shoes are great, but even the casual loafers are a bit too formal for me.

-------
My "style"
Work: Dress slacks (black or gray), button down shirt, sometimes a tie
Post work drinking with friends: usually the same + rolled up sleeves + loosen tie
Weekend Night 1: dress slacks + t-shirt, leather jacket from Banana R.
Weekend Night 2: jeans + casual button down, leather jacket from Banana R.

As for the "Work"/"Post Work" style, I can probably get away with a nice pair of AE (or similar) toe cap shoes but for the other styles I think it would come across too formal. Do you all have suggestions on some shoes that could be worn informally but adhere someone to recent fashion so I could get away with wearing them around "less formal" company?

Are you sure that is your "style"? It seems rather perfunctory if you ask me.

well, yeah, sorry. I was just trying to give an idea of the clothing worn. I'm a little cautious to add brand names for fear of being flamed...

perhaps the SW&D guys will have plenty of suggestions..

as I see you wear a leather jacket -> engineer/biker boots, workboots, etc when wearing jeans..
chukka/chelsea for dress slacks maybe.. (and jeans)

No, that was a bad example. I want to be formal, but I don't like the loafer style. I'd actually like a dressed down, dress shoe (if that makes sense?)

Example. I own a pair of Steve Madden Serpants now. I like them, except I think the toe just curls up a bit too much for my taste.

However, I'm sure you all hate Steve Madden so what would be a quality shoes that branches out from just capped and wing tipped dress shoes?

Monkstraps, chelsea boots and chukka boots bridge casual-to-business casual for me. The shape can be critical in determining how formal or dressed down the specific shoes/boots are. Some of the Italian brands are good quality and have a sleeker, "younger" vibe than the English shoes written about most often on the forum.

Size 11-12, normal or wide width. Black is what I like to wear most often and it's what I prefer to buy, but I need a brown pair before I go on a spending spree
